This past week has been a combination of joy and despair for me.
To start off, the grandaddy of contactless mobile payments is coming back and in a big way. Pebble watches are now bonafide activity trackers. Jawbone’s UP and UP24 activity tracker bands were just the start of the company’s fitness tracking ambitions, as the company announced at the beginning of this month a move towards integrating all types of devices with its software. Along with Apple’s Health Kit in iOS 8 and Google’s Android Wear (integration announced but not yet available), Pebble has now been added to the list of devices that connect with Jawbone’s UP service. Pebble Technology brought the smartwatch into prominence back in late 2012 when the company raised over $10 million on the crowdfunding website KickStarter for its Pebble Smartwatch. Looking to stay relevant and on top in the increasingly crowded smartwatch market, Pebble added a new (not that new) watch to their ranks: the Pebble Steel. The Kickstarter Sensation
The Pebble smart watch ($150 to pre-order) garnered about a record-breaking $10.3 million over a year ago on the crowd funding website KickStarter. As the one of the most successful KickStarter campaigns to date, Pebble faced high expectations to live up to.
